What will the airline of the future look like? How will the distribution system change?
Joint BABTA/SVBTA Meeting
Make your plans now to join us as Dave Hilfman, SVP of Worldwide Sales at United Airlines, and Holly Hegeman, Publisher of PlaneBusiness Banter, give us their views on where the airline industry is now, and what changes lie ahead in the next year. Dave will also update us on all things United, while Holly says she will attempt to keep him in line. They expect lots of questions! An entertaining presentation not to be missed.
Dave Hilfman is Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales for United Airlines, a position he has held since October 2010. In this role, Hilfman is responsible for directing the efforts of a team of more than 750 sales professionals who manage sales programs, relationships and revenue with corporations, travel management companies and distributors around the world.
Hilfman was previously Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Continental Airlines from 2004 to 2010, where he oversaw a team composed of more than 600 sales professionals. Dave started his airline career in 1981 with Eastern Airlines as a campus sales representative at the University of South Florida. He held sales positions of increasing responsibility with Eastern throughout the southeastern United States until joining Continental Airlines in 1986 where he served as Regional Sales Manager in New York City and Director of the Western Sales Division based in Los Angeles. In 1992, Hilfman moved to the airline’s corporate headquarters in Houston, where he held the positions of Senior Director of U.S. Field Sales, Vice President of Multinational Sales and Revenue Programs and Vice President of Sales and Reservations.
Hilfman graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in finance. He’s an avid golfer and has one son.
Holly Hegeman is founder and publisher of PlaneBusiness Banter, the most widely read weekly financial publication covering the airline industry. The publication covers operations, labor relations, management strategies, and financial analysis of the U.S. airline industry, as well as select international carriers.
Holly paid her dues both on Wall Street, and working as a consultant to then AMR Chairman and CEO Bob Crandall in the 90s. Herb Kelleher, former Chairman and CEO of Southwest Airlines has said of Holly, "I used Holly for my competitive intelligence when I was CEO, because she always told me what was going on in the industry before anyone else. And she was always right. She tells it like it is."
For the last two years, Holly was heavily involved in the coverage of the American Airlines bankruptcy and the airline's subsequent merger with US Airways. Her weekly column, "AMR Bankruptcy Follies", which ran in PlaneBusiness Banter, was widely regarded as a "must read" for the most thorough take on the merger. Holly is a frequent speaker at both corporate travel and airline financial events and has appeared on such news outlets as PBS Newshour, CNBC, CNN, and NPR and has been quoted widely in such publications as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.
